Redskins sign Vernon Davis to 1-year deal

Scot McCloughan did not shy away from admitting that he was interested in reuniting with the man he once drafted, Vernon Davis. Today the team made it official and signed Davis to 1-year deal, which will bring him back to play in the state he once played his college career at.

At the age of 32, it’s no secret that his production has dropped, but McCloughan still think Davis has more left in the tank. Davis is a physical freak that once ran a 4.38 at the combine 40 yard dash. He is also a player that stays in great physical shape and has managed to stay healthy for most of his 10 year career. The last time Davis was considered one of the best was back in 2013, but the difference is he’s coming to Washington to be support…not THE man. Look for Davis to contribute immediately in run blocking situations and rotate with Niles Paul. The Redskins run a lot of 2 TE sets in their offense so the potential is there for Davis to have a bounce back year. They say you can never have enough weapons, and the team is simply giving themselves insurance at the TE position, which got hit hard by injuries last season.

If Davis can return back anywhere near his old self, the Redskins could end up with one of the best TE units in the league.
