Rumor: Redskins London bound in 2016

With the NFL set to announce the 2016 line up of teams playing in England on November 25, a leaked report has emerged on November 24 that the Washington Redskins will be hosting the Green Bay Packers at Wembley stadium early in the 2016 NFL season.

A user on an NFL UK forum claims to have seen an early leaked version of the 2016 schedule, listing it as follows;

02 October 2016 – 2:30pm Green Bay @Washington (Wembley)

23 Oct 2016 – 6:00pm – Jacksonville @ San Diego (Twickenham)

30 Oct 2016 – 1:30pm – Indianapolis @ Jacksonville (Wembley)

6 Nov 2016 – 2:30pm – Philadelphia @ Cincinatti (Wembley)

This list certainly appears to match up with previous rumors and leaks that have emerged in recent weeks and months, including the fact that the Redskins were considering playing one of their ‘home’ games in London in 2016. Furthermore, it also appears to corroborate the rumor that Green Bay was willing to play an ‘away’ game in London, as well as the new deal for games to be played at Twickenham stadium starting in 2016.

The Redskins being listed to play on October 2nd would also seemingly indicate that they are in line for the week 4 or week 5 bye in 2016, given that teams returning from London always have their bye in the subsequent week.

With a listed start time of 2:30pm London time, that would equate to a 9:30am EST kick off, with the game potentially streamed for free on Yahoo like occurred earlier in the 2015 season to great success.

At this stage, this remains an unconfirmed rumor. Given the previous rumors and leaks, however, this appears to be entirely plausible. It is also unknown at this stage what, if any, changes this would create for the season ticket packages for FedEx Field with the move from 8 games to 7.
