FS Dashon Goldson traded to Redskins

News came in early Friday that Washington Redskins GM Scot McCloughan had made yet another move to bring in a player he is familiar with, by trading for former San Francisco 49er and Tampa Bay Buccaneer Dashon Goldson.

Goldson, who is expected to play Free Safety opposite new Redskins Strong Safety Jeron Johnson, was acquired by trading a 2016 6th round pick to the Buccs, in return for Goldson and a 2016 7th round pick.

That trade looks decent enough on face value, but then came the news that the Buccs will also still be on the hook for half of Goldson’s salary in 2015:

So to review; the Redskins upgraded the free safety position at the net cost of downgrading a 2016 6th round pick to a 7th round pick, and about $3.5million in salary cap space.

McCloughan continues to stamp his mark on this roster. If the Redskins are noticeably improved on the field this coming season, McCloughan will have every right to walk into owner Daniel Snyder’s office with his head held high.
